The First Christmas by Jan Piekowski

The First Christmas by Jan Piekowski

The first Christmas by Jan Pienkowski is a delightfully illustrated story about the birth of Jesus. The Narrative is taken from the Bible and the story is made even more enjoyable with dramatic silhouette characters.

The story takes us through the Bible tale of the birth of Jesus, beginning with King Herod’s decree for a census. The angel Gabriel appears to Mary and tells her she is to have a baby who will be the son of God, heavily pregnant Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem to be taxed where Mary gives birth in a stable.

“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manager; because there was no room for them in the inn.”

The story continues with the angel Gabriel appearing to the shepherds, meanwhile the three wise men are traveling from the east, guided by the Star of David. When they find the new born king they present him with gits of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

In a dream Joseph is told to return home a different way as Herod has heard of the new King’s birth and seeks to kill him. Herod orders that every child from two years and under must be killed in Bethlehem. When Herod dies years later, an angel appears to Joseph and tells him to settle in the land of Israel in a town called Nazareth.

“And so the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God upon him.”

Using bible text, this visually enchanting book brings to life the story of Christmas, and is a fantastic modern take on explaining Christmas to young Children.

This book is evaluated as not green.
