“Granny is coming for Christmas, we will do the shopping, and boil the pudding and dig up the tree and get everything ready for Christmas.”
Author Sarah Garland has created a much- loved family in her series of books about single mum and her two children and what I love about this book is that the author manages to capture through her illustrations, a realistic image of a modern household, expressing character and personality in her details, combining the idea of happiness versus chaos in the every day lives of this loveable and charming family.
The story continues with Christmas day. Grandma arrives in the morning just as everyone is unwrapping presents she is early and the family are still in their pyjamas. Mum sets about cooking Christmas dinner and soon the family are all sat around the table for turkey and pudding. In the afternoon they all walk to the park. Then Grandma goes home, finally exhausted Mum sits back in her chair with a cup of tea, Christmas is over for another year.
This wonderful short children’s story about Christmas, is ideal for explaining the commercial side of Christmas to young children. This book is evaluated as not green.
