Number 1: The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
A young boy wakes up to discover it has snowed during the night. He spends the whole day making the snowman and finally when it gets dark he is called inside. Late at night he can’t sleep and at midnight he creeps downstairs to check on his snowman. Amazingly the snowman has come to life. The boy and the snowman have fantastic adventures, as the boy shows the snowman around his house, then the snowman teaches the boy to fly and they fly across the sky all the way to Brighton pier. When the sun begins to rise the snowman and the boy fly back home and part ways. Will the boy see the snowman again?
The Snowman by Raymond Briggs is a magical Christmas classic that continues to enchant generations. Young and old still continue to enjoy this book and its success has even transformed the beloved story into a TV animation for Channel 4. It’s a beautifully illustrated children’s story, whose fun loving characters, the snowman and the boy are adored by Children. The picture book is wordless and the fact that the story doesn’t need words makes it all the more magical.
Number 2: The Christmas Tree Fairy by Marion Rose
Meredith McCauley wishes she could fly and be a fairy just like the one on top of the Christmas tree. One Christmas night she hears a cry from amidst the branches of the tree. The Christmas fairy has dropped her wand and Meredith must give it back to her. Swishing the wand she turns herself into a tiny Meredith McCauley and climbs up the tree to return the fairy’s wand. On her way she meets three special Christmas characters who all have their own Christmas wishes. The fairy is delighted to receive her wand and grants Meredith three wishes but what will they be?

Number 3: How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss
The Grinch hates Christmas and wishes he could stop the who’s down in whos-ville from celebrating and he has a plan to stop Christmas from coming. Disguised as Santa Claus and with his dog max disguised as a reindeer he sleighs down into whosville on Christmas Eve and steals all the who’s presents. But in the morning Christmas comes after all as all the who’s join together and sing. Will the Grinch learn the true meaning of Christmas?
The heart warming message about the real meaning of Christmas questions the commercialism of Christmas and has become a classic Christmas story, with a film adaptation starring Jim Carrey. The Story’s message is still as relevant today as it was when it was first written 50 years ago as it teaches children that there is a deeper meaning to Christmas than presents.
