Tickly Christmas is another much loved Wibbly Pig adventure from author Mick Inkpen. Famous for his character Kipper the dog, Wibbly Pig is Mick’s other well known children’s character.
In this Children’s Christmas Story, Wibbly Pig is dreading another Christmas present made from tickly itchy wool from Big Aunt Larlie. Wibbly Pig already has tickly gloves and a tickly scarf from Big Aunt Larlie, so this year he is certain he will be getting a tickly hat!
“Wibbly’s special scarf and gloves are tickly.
Itch!
Ooch!
Ouch!
But when it’s cold outside and snow has fallen,
Wibbly Pig must wear his special scarf, and his special gloves. It’s expected.”
This humorous story captures the world through a child’s perspective and children will empathize with Wibbly Pig, after receiving similar unwanted gifts from relatives and like Wibbly Pig, having to put up with it!
This year Big Aunt Larlie is coming to stay at Wibbly Pig’s house and she is bringing even more wool than usual. Wibbly Pig is worried. Wibbly Pig discovers a thick itchy package under the tree and is certain that this is going to be his itchy woollen hat! But it turns out that the package he thought was his is Big Aunt Larlie’s Christmas present to herself!
“Wibbly Pig is surprised.
‘Aunt Larlie!’ he says.
‘You’re wearing my present!’
Big Aunt Larlie laughs.
‘No I’m not, Wibbly dear!’ she says.
‘This year I’ve made a special Christmas outfit for MYSELF!’
Maybe this year Big Aunt Larlie has got Wibbly Pig something far more exciting then a woolly hat?
This children’s picture book perfectly captures children’s anticipation of Christmas and is fun to read with lovingly drawn illustrations.
